Taste of Dallas 2013 Review (with pics)

This year, I decided that I’d like to help out at the Taste of Dallas! Going and sampling the food every year is lots of fun, so this time, I felt like I wanted to give back.

I ended up volunteering the day before, and opening day.

Sidenote: It was 103 degrees.

There wasn’t too much for the volunteers to do the day before, but we made up for it on opening day!! That Friday, my day started at 2pm when I was due at Exposition Pizza to pick up my parking pass and  crew admission ticket.

After that, I was due to sign in at the Centennial building and get my Taste of Dallas T-shirt. When I got there, I was told that I would be working in the Automobile Building at the Chefs Stage. There is where I met 3 really great gals whom I got to know pretty well: Cheryl, Gloria and Margaret!

Our first job was to line the tables and make sure everything was straight and neat. The first Chef’s Demo was due to start at 5:30.

We needed to get as many people to come into the demo as we could and then serve the Chef’s samples once they were done.

We got the chance to sample from Chef Cassondra from the American Heart Association. She made a Fried Green Tomato Po Boy with a non alcoholic Peach Mojito. It was amazing!!!! I really didn’t think I was gonna like it, but I was impressed! Great dish! and the Peach Mojito was really good too!

Our shift ended at 7 (in time for the next Chef’s demo), so the girls and I decided to walk around the see what looked good and finally have dinner. We sampled a  few things: Teriyaki Chicken, Chicken Tacos, Barbecue Ribs and Tamales!

I also picked up some Watermelon from Albertson’s (it was wonderful!) and some chocolate chip cookies (I gave those to my son. YAY for me!!)

Take a look at the listing of all of the vendors that represented this year! It was amazing! I didn’t get a chance to check out my Food Trucks this year. Sorry guys!

Thank you Connie Adams for allowing me to volunteer! It was awesome working with you guys!

Til next year!
