Gonzales Restaurant Review: Dallas

Mel and I recently moved to an area in Dallas called Pleasant Grove. The area so far seems really nice and we love it! We got the chance to stop in to a restaurant yesterday called Gonzales Restaurant right off of Bruton and Buckner.

We were originally going to eat at Long John Silver’s but I’m always up for something new! We stopped in Walgreens and then went to the restaurant. When we first went in, we were greeted by a really pretty girl with a nice smile. I had to make sure that the menu was in English so I wouldn’t embarrass myself later. LOL

The first thing I noticed was the decor. Not really my style, but hey it works for them! :-) It was around lunch time when we were there, but it wasn’t overly crowded, so that was good.

We didn’t have to wait long for the waiter to take our drink orders. Mel and I were both kind of surprised when we ordered a Pepsi and DrPepper and they brought us out 2 glasses of ice and 2 cans of soda. Guess there are no free refills!

The menu was typical for a Mexican restaurant and I ended up ordering 3 enchiladas with beans and rice. They were fantastic! Nice and hot and tasted great. They even had a part of the menu labeled American food  in case Mel decided to get picky!

When the waiter took his order he asked what was on the salad and dude told him meat, lettuce and tomato. I said “that’s all?!” yes. that is all. Now that’s not really my idea of a taco salad at all,but it was right up Mel’s alley!

He complained that it was alittle too much lettuce, but other than that, he liked it. It seemed alittle dry to me though…I like way more stuff on a taco salad than that!

But overall, we both enjoyed the meal and would definitely go there again! Good Eats.

Serious Pizza Review: Dallas

I had to stop and tell the staff on my way out that the pizza was AMAZING!! We ordered a medium pepperoni and it was MORE than enough for 3 people…we even brought 2 pieces home.

It was NY style pizza from a brick oven! I will definitely go back there! Since I was with Ramel and Marquel, I stuck to pepperoni, but they had all kinds of toppings and sauces to choose from!

The atmosphere was really friendly and down to earth and I can definitely see myself there again. Gotta bring Marvin!

Earth Day Dallas 2013

003

Wow! I had a great time at Earth Day! To be honest, last years event was a drag, but this year it rocked!! I think they added more hands on exhibits. I took Mel and his friend Marquel with me and we had a good time!

Some of the companies present were:

Rumble Against Cancer

Arborilogical Services, Inc

Garden Inspirations – had an awesome Truck Farm!

Natural Gas Vehicles

BullsEye Watering Mat

The Greatest Candle

It seemed like they had more food at this event too and you KNOW I like to eat! BUT I only had a cheesesteak sub (1/3 of it) because we were leaving there and going to the North Texas Taco Festival in Deep Ellum. I will tell you about that later!

I got to talk to 2 long timers with Dart.org. They had one of the new buses down there and I got to take a look inside and check out the new cameras! It’s like 4 or 5 on each bus! Love that! VERY necessary.

They also had the new Greyhound bus there too! I got some info from one of the drivers and he said that in maybe 2 years, all of the old buses should be replaced. They have wifi and outlets AT EVERY SEAT. LOVE that!! VERY nice..leather seats that recline…can’t wait to take a trip on one!

Some of the other companies were:

Eco Friends Pest Control

Classic Superoof LLC

Storm Dorms

1SolTech

Austin Wood Recycling

Axium Solar

A Day Out in Dallas: Klyde Warren Park

I spent the day out with 2 of my friends and we ended up at Klyde Warren Park. If you haven’t visited yet, please do. This was only my 2nd time there, but it is fast becoming a favorite place of mine.

It was 80 degrees out and people were out laying on blankets and relaxing. Everyone had thier dogs out and the Food Trucks were thier posts. It’s a great atmosphere!

There is a children’s section to the park in case you need a place for your little ones to play. There is a reading corner with magazine and books and thier were even people there playing the piano.

There are water sprinklers for the kids also and you KNOW we need that here in Texas!!

Beautiful place, wonderful atmosphere! Go and check out Klyde Warren Park! Bring the whole family!

Taco Borracho Review in Dallas

Oh my goodness!

taco borracho ext

First, let me apologize for not having a picture of the food I ate! I ate it entirely too fast and by the time I thought of taking a pic, it was half way gone. That would NOT have been a nice picture!

I’ve stopped in Taco Borracho a few times and tried out a few of the tacos. I happened to walk by today and they had a sign out front mentioning BURGERS! (I never knew they did burgers!)

Now, I’m not a really big burger eater at all, but I hadn’t had one in a while, so it sounded pretty tempting. The service is always pretty good there and Chuck gave me the ins and outs concerning the burgers they were offering!

One was called the Juicy Lucy! 2 patties with 2 pieces of cheese melted between them…supposed to be ooey and gooey, but that’s not my style.

The second one was the 50/50. This one was 50% ground meat and 50% chopped up bacon! Now you KNOW I had to leave that one alone!!

I decided on the third, which was the regular 1/2lb burger. I opted for everything plus grilled onions!

Remember I said I wasn’t really a burger person? Well, I’m SOLD on this burger!!! From the very first bite, it was delicious! The meat was so juicy! It was even cooked to well done. It was served with home cut fries and sweet ketchup! It was more than enough food to satisfy and it was amazing!

If you are ever downtown, Taco Borracho outdid themselves with the burgers! Seriously!! Go and get one!

Review: The Fried Chicken Shack, NYC

Nestled on the east side of  Spanish Harlem between Lexington ave and 3rd ave and east 106 th street,  lies the doors of a soul food restaurant I came across while doing a moving job in Harlem. I vowed to come back and  try some of this really great smelling food!

The Fried Chicken Shack is the name of this small, soulful eatery with a few tables and chairs for seating. I checked out the menu and saw some collard greens (which was a heavenly!). Next up was this really tasty sweet potato pudding with marshmallows on top alongside some fried chicken that was very light and crunchy at the same time along with some pretty tasty corn bread.

I really enjoyed my meal and definitely will be back . Thanks Corey for your awesome customer service.

Candy Galaxy Review: Who Loves Candy?!

I do!!

I know what you’re thinking…”she’s a diabetic; how can she love candy?”

Well, I do! I didn’t say it was good for me, I just said I love it!

My wonderful friends at Candy Galaxy sent me some Chocolate Chip Pecan cookies, Strawberry Gummi Bears and Strawberry Jelly Belly Jelly Beans!

Now, Gummi Bears are one of my favorite candies, but I only eat Haribo brand. Normally other gummies are too soft for me and I like the work I have to put in to eating Haribo’s. (Most people complain about that, but that’s actually what I like about them…their GUMMINESS!)

I was surprised that Candy Galaxy’s had that same gumminess as Haribo, so I was really pleased…and the  strawberry flavor is definitely there! VERY nice. Yes, I will be eating those…very slowly….

Now, Jelly Beans have NEVER been a favorite of mine, but my son is eating them by the handful! I did taste them and they were good, but I’m gonna have to pass those off to my son…it’s like Candy Corn, I can only eat about one and then I’m done!

Now, the cookies?!! WooHoo!! Outstanding! I normally don’t like nuts in my cookies and ice cream, but they were really good! I may have to actually try to get my hands on more of those! They were VERY good and my son was getting on my nerves asking for them! I gave him a few, but to be honest, I ate most of them myself!

If you’re interested in ordering some candy for a friend or relative, I recommend Candy Galaxy! They even have retro candies; You know the awesome candy you grew up on?! Go by and take a look and try not to go crazy!

Review of Foot N’ It on Lenox Avenue, NYC

I must say, I had a very tasty visit here today. It is hidden away on W 118th street and Lenox Ave in Harlem. Being as busy as a bee lately,  I came across this fine small wonder by the awesome smell coming from it’s doors.  I went in to try a side order and was introduced to a wonderful array of southern taste that really took me back.
The red rice was a very special tasting since I haven’t any in years. The corn bread was different and very tasty. This was as close to Grandma’s as you are going to get in Harlem.
The mac and cheese was really, really cheesy! And the service was with a smile and a very old school feel.  The mac and cheese was so awesome I forgot to snap a pic before I ate it!

Swiss Colony Sugar Free Cheesecake Tarts! (review and pics)

Have you ever ordered anything from Swiss Colony? I get their catalog every year and always say I’m going to order, but then don’t! Well, this time I did. When I look through the book, I always see SO many things that I’d like to try but since I’m trying to get my diabetes under control, I decided on Sugar Free Cheesecake Tarts.

I wasn’t really expecting anything too good, but I was pleasantly surprised. They were very moist and you couldn’t really tell that they were sugar free! Next year I will be sure to put my order in early!

Trucks For Tots: Deep Ellum 2012

I decided at the last minute that I wanted to go and check this out! ( What is Trucks for Tots?)It had been awhile since I’d gotten to visit any of my food trucks, so I was looking forward to it. The sun is finally starting to come out but this morning, it was just cloudy and warm.

Trucks for Tots is being held in Deep Ellum right off of the Green Line Station. It was VERY convenient for me to get to! I was surprised when I got there that there wasn’t more people, but I think I may have been alittle too early.

From the station you could see the bounce houses and the Pet Rescue animals. The whole event was smaller than I thought it would be, but it WAS nice being able to eat from the food trucks without the massive lines!!

Since I was alone, I didn’t get to sample but 2 of the trucks….by the time I was done I was stuffed!! First, I got a pepperoni pizza from Gepetto’s Pizza Truck and it was amazing!!!! I would definitely eat from there again!!

And for dessert, I tried the Begian Waffle truck! Marvin had sampled their counterpart in NYC, Wafels and Dinges, and said it was worth a stop! And let me just say, he was right!!! I had the Wafel Wafel with chocolate drizzle, raspberries and a scoop of blue bell vanilla icecream on top!!! HEAVENLY!!

I went to be last night not feeling too well, so I didn’t plan to stay out too long, but I had a good time just getting out and seeing all of the trucks!

Wish I could have sampled more food!
